Laying Hold on God's Greatness

6/4/2019

“LAYING HOLD ON GOD’S GREATNESS”
Philippians 4:4-7

PROVIDENCE BAPTIST CHURCH TAKES SERIOUSLY OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO “KEEP HOUSE FOR GOD.” IT HAS BECOME NECESSARY TO RESTORE THE SANCTUARY FLOOR. THERE IS ALSO A NEED TO PURCHASE A GOLF CART TO PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION FOR OUR SENIOR ADULTS AND HANDICAPPED FROM THE EDUCATIONAL BUILDING TO THE GATHERING PLACE, OUR FELLOWSHIP CENTER. THE CHURCH HAS VOTED TO ACCEPT THE CHALLENGE OF RAISING THE MONEY FOR THIS PROJECT. WE ARE “LAYING HOLD ON THE GREATNESS OF GOD” BELIEVING THAT GOD WILL BLESS THIS EFFORT ON BEHALF OF HIS PEOPLE. PROVIDENCE IS COMMITTED TO RAISING $150,000.00 TO MEET THESE NEEDS. WE WILL NOT BORROW MONEY FOR THIS PROJECT.

THEREFORE, FOR THE NEXT SIX MONTHS WE WILL BE FOCUSING ON THIS STEWARDSHIP ENDEAVOR. THIS IS GOING TO BE MUCH MORE THAN A “FUND RAISING PROJECT.” THIS IS GOING TO BE A MINISTRY AFFIRMED IN PHILIPPIANS 4:4-7. WE LOOK FORWARD WITH GREAT EXCITEMENT TO THIS TIME OF SPIRITUAL RENEWAL AND RESTORATION.

I. REJOICE - June
Philippians 4:4 - “Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again-rejoice.”
The month of June will be a time of expressing gratitude to God for the blessings He has shared with Providence. Joy comes from a heart of gratitude.

June 1st - Kick-off Event - “Chicken-Q” - 11:00 a.m. until sold out
June 2nd - Our Pastor will begin a series of sermons on the theme of “Joy.”
June 30th - “Dessert fellowship” will be followed by a time of prayer and praise.

II. RESTORE - July and August
Philippians 4:6 - “Don’t worry about anything, instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all He has done.”

The months of July and August will focus on GIVING to restore the floor in the Sanctuary and meeting other needs that will make us more effective as we minister in our community. Our pastor will challenge us as he develops the biblical theme of restoration and stewardship.

July 21st - Sunday Evening Celebration at 5 p.m.
We will have homemade ice cream as we enjoy the “Linecreek Bluegrass Band” in the
Fellowship Center.

August 11th – Morning Worship at 11 a.m. & Homecoming Celebration at noon.
We are praying for record breaking attendance on this very significant day.

III. RESOLVE - September and October
Philippians 4:7 - “Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”

The months of September and October will be a time of resolving to live life in Christ Jesus. This entire endeavor is much more than raising funds to “keep house for God.” As we “take hold on the greatness of God,” we are praying for a mighty wave of God’s spirit to move across Providence, empowering us to be His people on His mission for His glory. Our pastor will preach a series of sermons focusing on the importance of “Living in Christ Jesus.”

October 5th - Annual Michael Dempsey Memorial Barbecue – 11 a.m. until sold out
October 20th - We will be encouraged and inspired by a time of “testimonies and music” provided by our Providence family – 5 p.m.

IV. REJOICE. AGAIN, I SAY REJOICE. VICTORY BELONGS TO THE LORD: November
Philippians 4:12 - “And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from His glorious riches which have been given us in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4:12 will be our theme for November as we lift up our praise to God for what He has done for us. This will be a time of celebrating and expressing gratitude to God for reaching our goal and giving us the blessing of “taking hold of the greatness of God.”

November 24th - Sunday Service at 11 a.m. & Thanksgiving Luncheon at noon
This will be our chosen day of celebration and thanksgiving for all the things our God has given us. After morning worship, we will celebrate together at our annual Thanksgiving Luncheon.

ABOVE ALL, PLEASE, PRAY, PRAY, PRAY, PRAY EACH DAY. PRAY AS WE “LAY HOLD ON THE GREATNESS OF GOD.”  REMEMBER, “AS WE ATTEMPT GREAT THINGS FOR GOD, WE CAN EXPECT GREAT THINGS FROM GOD.”
