was singing the hymns from the Broadman Hymnal. Church music has experienced transitions from
the years of fifties and sixties until the present. Today, as I was admiring the beauty of the new fallen snow, my mind went back to one of those old hymns..... I haven't heard it in quiet some time.
PURER IN HEART O GOD,
HELP ME TO BE.
MAY I DEVOTE MY LIFE WHOLLY TO THEE .
WATCH THOU MAY WAYWARD FEET, GUIDE ME WITH COUNSEL SWEET.
PURER IN HEART, HELP ME TO ME.
AS I REFELCTED UPON THE WORDS THAT BROUGHT BACK SO MANY MEMORIES, THE THOUGHT CAME TO MY MIND, "AS FOLLOWERS OF JESUS CHRIST WHY DO WE DO WHAT WE DO?" AS WE TAKE THE FIRST STEPS INTO A NEW YEAR THIS COULD BE A TIME FOR US TO ASK THAT VERY PROBING QUESTION. YES, THIS IS A TIME FOR US TO CHECK UP ON OUR MOTIVES. SO, I ENCOURAGE EACH READER TO REFLECT UPON THE WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO IN OUR CHRISTIAN PILGRIMAGE.
PLEASE JOIN ME AS WE REFLECT UPON THE FOLLOWING:
LET OUR MOTIVE FOR COMING TO CHURCH BE TO WORSHP GOD AND LEARN WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A DISCIPLE OF JESUS CHRIST. LET'S MINISTER TO OTHERS WITH A PURE HEART REMEMBERING THE WORDS OF JESUS, "INASMUCH AS YOU HAVE DONE IT TO THE LEAST OF THESE YOU HAVE DONE IT UNTO ME."
Paul reminds in I Thessalonians 2: 4. "Our purpose is to please God and not people. He alone examines the motives of our heart."
Blessings,
Doc
