Game Changer

Football fans eagerly anticipate the kick-off of the 2016 football season. I join that group who look forward to seeing the happenings on the field and off the field as we cheer for our favorite team.

This year games will be filled with GAME CHANGERS. A fumble will be recovered, a pass intercepted, a long touchdown run, a forward pass resulting in a touchdown will all fill the year with GAME CHANGERS.

There has been a game changer even before toe meets leather and the season begins. Recently I saw an interview take place with Dr. King Alexander, President of Louisiana State University. Dr. Alexander was affirming the work of the work of the L.S.U. Tiger football team as the team was busy helping the people in clean-up efforts following the flooding in Baton Rouge. The team was working together in the midst of great destruction to bring help and hope to the people whose lives had been drastically changed by the flooding. THIS WAS A GAME CHANGER AS THE TEAM FACED A TREMENDOUS CHALLENGE AND RESPONDED WITH THEIR TIME AND ENERGY TO HELP THOSE IN NEED.

I ALSO OBSERVED ANOTHER GAME CHANGER. THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA GAMECOCKS LOADED AN EIGHTEEN WHEELER WITH WATER, FOOD AND OTHER NECESSITIES NEEDED BY THE PEOPLE OF BATON ROUGE. WHAT A MOVING MOMENT AS THE GAMECOCKS PROVIDED NEEDED SUPPLIES TO THE PEOPLE OF TIGER LAND.

YES, THIS WAS A GAME CHANGER.

WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM THESE TWO GAME CHANGERS?
First of all, there is something about human suffering that motivates others to reach and help. Someone recently said, "Imagine what would happen if approximately 350 million people (population of the United States) came together with love and respect for one another. These two football teams competed on the football field, and have now combined love and respect for hurting humanity. The results have been amazing.
Let us learn that GAME CHANGERS are not reserved for Friday night lights and Saturday kickoffs. When people use their blessings to bless others, lives are changed. There is rejoicing when buckets of hope are shared with those in need.

THE HOUR IS NOW WHEN WE MUST PRAY FOR SOME GAME CHANGERS TO TAKE PLACE ACROSS THE NATION. Jesus was the ultimate GAME CHANGER who taught that good is more powerful than evil; love is more powerful than hate. GOOD LUCK TO YOUR FAVORITE TEAM. I PRAY THAT THE CHURCH PEOPLE I SERVE WILL ALWAYS BE KNOWN AS GAME CHANGERS.

Dr. Gene ("Doc")Tyre, Pastor

Dr. Gene Tyre came to the pastorate of Providence Baptist Church in October of 2005. Dr. Tyre is native of Wayne County Georgia. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Mercer University and his Master’s and Doctor of Ministry Degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky He has participated in special studies at Central State Hospital and Yale University. For twenty-three years he was Pastor of First Baptist Church, Newnan, Georgia.

Dr. Tyre has also been active in the Georgia Baptist Convention, having served as Chairman of the Executive Committee, Chairman of the Administration Committee, Chairman of the Georgia Baptist Hospital Board, and Vice President of the Convention. He has served as a member of the Mercer University Board of Trustees. In 1993 he was named "Coweta County Citizen of the Year." He is on the Board of the Samaritan Clinic in Newnan. He has participated in preaching missions to Liberia, Kenya, South America, and Honduras.

Dr. Tyre's philosophy of ministry is to "Preach the Gospel" and "Love the People." His wife, Margaret, has served as the President of the Ministers' Wives of Georgia. The Tyres have a daughter, Jenny and a grandson, Mihai.
