Thanksgiving 2016

11/23/2016

  I AM THANKFUL FOR
The morning an hour before sunrise
The sunrise and the anticipation of a new day
The aroma of coffee and the warmth a cup brings
The stillness of the early morning

  I AM THANKFUL FOR
A time of prayer and meditation
The presence of God in the living of life
The revelation of God through His Word
God coming to this earth in Jesus Christ

  I AM THANKFUL FOR
     A courteous driver
     A kind word spoken
     A gentle touch
The blessing of being greeted by a friend

  I AM THANKFUL FOR
People who share the gift of encouragement
For a book filled with information and encouragement
For a conversation that challenges the mind and encourages the spirit
For teachers who view their  vocation as a calling

  I AM THANKFUL FOR
The feeling after a hard work-out
The words of a physician, "Just keep on doing what you are doing."
A prescription that has declined in price
A physician who combines professionalism with compassion

  I AM THANKFUL FOR
The gift of a wonderful family
For an uninterrupted day with family
A wife and daughter who celebrate the presence of each other
A grandson whose discipline and determination inspire many

   I AM THANKFUL FOR
A generous brother who is always helping the least of these
A gracious sister who challenges me to never forget my roots
The blessing of growing up in a small town
The precious memories of family and friends who are now with the Lord

   I AM THANKFUL FOR
The churches I have been privileged to serve as Pastor
A special church known as Providence Baptist
A church that communicates "It's not about us It's all about Him." (JESUS CHRIST)
Each member of Providence and the love they have for God and their neighbor

     I AM THANKFUL FOR
        The blessing of giving THANKS.
         Hope
         Peace
         Love

Thanksgiving Celebration

11/16/2016

Sunday, November 20, is Providence Baptist Church's annual Thanksgiving celebration. We look forward to a great day of expressing our gratitude to God for the many things He has done for us.  This is a time to invite our community to join us in celebrating the blessings of God.

I look forward with great anticipation as we gather for Bible study and worship.  This time of experiencing the awesome presence of God will be followed by a fellowship meal that is so great that I lack the words to give it an adequate description.  I encourage all of us to invite our friends and neighbors to join us for this time of experiencing the BREAD OF LIFE ALONG WITH THE BREAD THAT FEEDS OUR PHYSICAL BODIES.

This Sunday is the time for our annual Thanksgiving Offering.  Three years ago Providence made the decision to receive a Thanksgiving Offering to finance capital improvement needs.  This year we have had to purchase a new freezer and ice machine.   It is these needs that are met through this offering.   I encourage all of us to give what we can.  It is so important that whatever we give, we give with a joyful heart.

Included in this letter is an offering envelope for this purpose.  This offering will be received during the worship service and luncheon celebration.   This gift will be given to once again remind us "THAT IT IS NOT ABOUT US, IT'S ALL ABOUT HIM."

SUNDAY IS GOING TO BE A GREAT DAY AS WE GIVE GLORY TO GOD FOR THE GREAT THINGS HE HAS DONE.
