It's All About Him

10/9/2012

I love this time of year.  When I step outside in the early morning, I experience refreshment of body, mind and spirit. I am blessed when I see the changing color of the leaves. The brisk morning air seems to put a little extra zip in my steps. The thought of a hot bowl of vegetable soup accompanied by a piece of Providence cornbread makes hunger more than a thought. What about the blessings that will come as a result of the journey to apple country? The journey to apple country will result in fried pies, apple cider, crisp delicious apples that that are indescribable delicious.

This time of year brings many blessings to Providence BaptistChurch.  The Michael Dempsey Memorial barbecue is a time to remember a special little boy who lived a brief life but touched many people. The barbecue provides a time of fellowship, and the best barbecue ever (prepared by Tully Dempsey and his
hosts of helpers.) The Special Events Committee along with many other people makes this a great experience for Providence families and our community.

We will have a special blessing on Sunday evening October 28th as Jon McDonald presents a concert at Providence.  Jon was a featured soloist during our revival. When I heard him sing, I knew he must return for a concert.

There are many other events planned for this season of the year. I must remind all of us to never forget that we are blessed with these opportunities for fun and fellowship. The heartbeat of Providence is our focus on  the Lord Jesus Christ. The ministry of this church is “IT’S ALL ABOUT HIM.” The blessings we receive at Providence come from the hand of a loving Father whose grace is sufficient to meet all our needs. As recipients of God’s grace, we must share His grace with others.  I encourage all of us to communicate to each person we meet, “what happens to you makes a difference to me.” The priority of Providence must be walking in the steps of the one who says to each of us, “follow me and I will make you.”

Recently I saw a sign in front of a church that read,“Autumn Leaves, God Never Does.”  In the midst of the changes that Autumn brings, the one who brings Autumn never changes. Therefore let us continue to love Him with all our heart, mind and soul and remember “at Providence, it’s not about us, IT’S ALL ABOUT HIM.”

Remember the road is up and we must keep climbing.
