resolutions. In recent days I have heard people say, “I am resolved to lose weight”, “I am resolved to think positively,” “I am resolved to spend more time giving attention to my spiritual journey.”
The real challenge is not making the resolutions but keeping them. Someone has said, “To match the finish by the start by the finish is the challenge.”
As our Providence family begins a new year, we are faced with opportunities to impact our world in a positive manner. Our focus must be on Jesus Christ and our determination to walk in His steps.
I encourage each of us to spend time each day reading the Gospels. My prayer is that we will come to a deeper understanding of who Jesus really is and renew our openness to His call upon our lives. People that take Jesus seriously in word and deed are people who have a full and meaningful life. Each day spend time reflecting upon the words of our Lord. He is the ultimate authority on living life as it should be lived. Remember His words, “I have come that you might have life and have it more abundantly.”
Each time we meet at Providence our focus must me on our Lord. Our calling is to lift Him up. When that happens, people with a multitude of needs will come to Him. The lost will discover a Saviour, the sick will meet the Great Physician, the lonely will discover that nothing can separate them from God’s love and the depressed will discover a hope that is more powerful than despair.
So as we begin 2013 may we hear anew His words, be inspired by His actions and determined to follow in His steps. May God bless each of you in the journey.
