There are those times in life when our journey takes us to places where we have never been before. I am writing these words to encourage you to attend Providence Baptist Church, Rico on Sunday morning, October 7, as I take us on a sermonic journey to places we have never been before.
Providence Baptist Church has a great heritage. Through the years Providence has "kept house for God and looked after each others common good" Viewed through the eyes of many Providence would have the identity of a small rural church. I would quickly add, "a great small rural church." We take great pride in our heritage. Providence has always taken seriously the mission God has given us to the community we serve and the region beyond.
In recent years God has blessed us with numerical growth. We would now be identified by "church growth consultants" as no longer a small church, but a medium size church. Also, I would hasten to add we are located in a community that is part of a much larger metro area. I recently shared with our people that we are no longer a rural church nor are we an urban church. I believe our new identity to be that of a rurban church.
October 7th I am going to challenge our people to take a journey to places we have never been before. We will be focusing on questions, "What are people looking for in a church today?" "What is the mission of Providence in these turbulent times?" "What is the message we must share with the community?" "What does God want to do in us and through us?" "Where do we find the wisdom and strength to be what God wants us to be?"
If you are a member of the Providence fellowship, please make plans to be present on Sunday morning and go with us on what I believe is an exciting journey. Also, I would ask you to call your friends and neighbors and invite them to visit with us Sunday. This will be a great time for them to have the Providence experience.
Someone shared with me recently that the ministry of Providence is a well-kept secret. We must share what God is doing in our midst. I believe God has prepared some great blessings for us. Like Joshua of old we stand on the edge of the river of Jordan. It is time to cross over to the land God has given us as we accept the challenge of the opportunities in the land He has promised.
